Award Application
At the Aspen Institute, we are committed to making our transformative leadership development programs accessible to a diverse range of leaders. To support this mission, we offer a limited number of awards for Aspen Leadership Seminars, designed to provide financial assistance to individuals whose organizations may face financial constraints.

In every instance, applicants are asked to secure the balance of funding before submitting the award application. An institutional endorsement, including an affirmation of the balance of funds, must accompany each award application.


Scholarship Details

  • Award Amount: Awards are available for up to 75% of the tuition cost. But potential for more award funding should greater need be demonstrated.
  • Funding Availability: Awards are limited and awarded based on the number of applicants and available funds.
  • Eligibility: Awards are available to leaders from small non-profit, local government, journalism, the arts, clergy, and other similar organizations with demonstrated financial need.
  • Rolling Applications: awarded 3 times a year (regardless of seminar chosen). 
  • Award Period: Ensure that your application and all supporting documents are submitted before the relevant deadline:
    • Round 1 deadline: January 31, 2026 (Award determinations are shared in February 2026)
    • Round 2 deadline: April 30, 2026 (Award determinations are shared in May 2025)
    • Round 3 deadline: July 31, 2026 (Award determinations are shared in August 2025)

Institutional Endorsement Guidelines:
  1. Letter should endorse the participant’s application and affirm both the financial need and the value of attendance for the individual’s professional and personal development (how will participation benefit the individual and organization?)
  2. Letter must be signed by a person authorized to guarantee payment of balance of funds
  3. If personal funds will be used, attach signed letter guaranteeing allotment of funds

121+ days before the first day of the seminar

  • Transfer Policy: $500 fee in addition to paid participant fee
  • Cancellation Policy: refund of paid participant fee less $7,225

120-46 days before the first day of the seminar:

  • Transfer Policy: $7,225 transfer fee in addition to paid participant fee
  • Cancellation Policy: No refund of paid participant fee

45 days or less before the seminar:

  • Transfer Policy: $11,000 transfer fee in addition to paid participant fee
  • Cancellation Policy: No refund of paid participant fee
